years 7 & 8

At the core of our programme for our pupils in Years 7 & 8 is the development of leadership skills. Year 7 is launched in September with an exciting outdoor education experience during which the pupils are set a series of exciting team building challenges. The week brings the children closer together, teaches them how to work collaboratively and develops their capacity to make decisions for themselves. A return visit is made at the end of Year 8.

In these two years, there are ample opportunities for the older boys and girls to assume positions of responsibility at Bishopsgate with duties ranging from helping younger children with their reading to leading one of the school’s four houses. Those in positions of responsibility apply for their positions, are formally interviewed and report to a member of staff who mentors them. The qualities we seek to instil in our leaders are those of kindness, hard work, adaptability and reliability.

The Years 7 & 8 pupils enjoy a programme of enrichment lectures to put their learning into context and enable the pupils to gain a broader understanding of the world around them. Recent lectures have covered such diverse subjects as aviation, disaster relief, the ICT industry, pharmaceuticals and personal finance.

With a rigorous and broad curriculum, taught by subject specialists, a wide ranging extra-curricular programme and a busy programme of sport, Bishopsgate provides the ideal preparation for senior school whether that be in the independent or the maintained sector.

Bursaries and scholarships are available to candidates wishing to join Bishopsgate for Years 7 & 8.
