Music @ Bishopsgate

Children enjoy music at Bishopsgate School through participation and exploration. Practical musicianship plays a central role in the spirit of the school where pupils join together in ensembles and pursue individual study housed in a well-resourced Music School.

Music is celebrated at every assembly where children sing hymns of praise and throughout the school year choral performances give pupils many opportunities to discover and develop their love of song.

Instrumentalists study through individual peripatetic tutors in dedicated practice rooms. The school choirs rehearse and perform in the Chapel where string ensembles and percussion lessons also take place. Informal concerts take place at lunchtimes and pupils also work towards regular graded examinations.

In addition, music technology is used in the teaching of composition, notation and keyboard skills in the digital keyboard studio. Music is taught in a multi-media environment encouraging practical exploration, performance, fostering performance skills and, above all, a sense of fun.
